It has been a dream of Beta Xi Chi for years of expanding chapters
all across the nation. That dream is now a lot closer with the expansion efforts of David Lam and Mike Lozano. David and Mike has been working with students from the University of Texas-Pan American for the past few months, and have successfully created Beta Xi Chi as a recognized student organization on that campus.
The new chapter
members are currently in the pledge process of Beta Xi Chi. Julian Gutierrez, Cruz Rios, Martin
Carrizales and Aaron Ford are four motivated prospects to lead the new Chapter at UTPA. In the end of February this year, the four gentlemen from UTPA traveled to Austin to meet a few of the Alumni. The potential
members created a great powerpoint presentation about their campus and about themselves.
These four gentlemen are active in various student organizations,
clubs, honor societies, and are active with the Delta Xi Nu Chapter in UTPA. The guys got to try authentic chinese food first hand, at First Chinese BBQ in Austin, a legendary restaurant for the Asian community. Other activities that weekend included visiting a Mexican-American Art Museum in downtown Austin, a little basketball action, followed by dinner and evening at Dave & Busters. The University of Texas-Pan American is located in the Rio Grande Valley, a river delta of the Rio Grande at the Tropical Tip of Texas. The main campus of the University is in Edinburg, Texas, population 34,000, the county seat of Hidalgo County, some 20 minutes from the U.S./Mexico border.UTPA has a total of 17,337 students coming from 28 different
states, and over 40 countries around the world. UTPA enrolls the highest number and highest percentage of Hispanics (86%) among Texas public universities.
Of the total student population,
2,261 are graduate students participating in 48 graduate level programs. |
